CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Tri-State Advertising & Marketing Professionals (AMP) recognized the best in local advertising creativity at the annual ADDY® Awards Show on Friday, February 24.

Nearly 140 print, interactive, broadcast and multi-media advertising projects, all created, published or aired in the Cape Girardeau, Mo.; Paducah, Ky.; and Harrisburg, Ill., markets between January 1 and December 31, 2011, were considered in this year’s competition. Of those entries, Tri-State AMP presented 10 Gold ADDY awards, 16 Silver ADDY awards, and 12 Bronze ADDY recognitions. Eight Student ADDY Awards were presented to marketing and design students from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.

The professional “Best of Show” recognitions were awarded in the following categories: Print – Creative Instinct of Jackson, Mo., for Rust & Martin brochure produced for Rust & Martin; Interactive – Red Letter of Cape Girardeau for STIHL BR 200 Web Commercial produced for STIHL, Inc.; Broadcast/Mixed Media – The Roberts Group of Waukesha, Wis., for Pink Up Cape Videos produced for Saint Francis Medical Center. The student Best of Show was awarded to AR 417/MK 343 Fall 2011 Students at Southeast Missouri State University for Around Town Brochure 1.

Local gold ADDY winners are eligible to compete in the second level of the three-tiered ADDY Awards Competition, the District 9 ADDY competition. Hosted by Tri-State AMP for the first time, the district judging will be conducted in March and includes entries submitted by other AAF clubs throughout Missouri, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. District 9 winners will be eligible for the ultimate competition, the national ADDY, presented in June every year by AAF. As a three-tiered national competition with 60,000 entrants overall, the national ADDY Awards are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, recognizing creative excellence and the very best advertising worldwide.

During the event, Tri-State AMP presented Paul Walker of the Southeast Missourian newspaper with the American Advertising Federation’s (AAF) Silver Medal Award. The Silver Medal award was established in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern.

Walker has been in the advertising business for the past 45 years and is considered the “founder” of agency support to local businesses. He has won numerous, local, state, national, and international awards for creating and executing advertising ideas. From the Caxton Agency he founded in the 1960s, to radio and television advertising sales, to specialized publications, Paul’s brand of loyal customer service is as much a calling card as his many years of experience in the ever-changing business of advertising.

Previous Tri-State AMP Silver Medal honorees are: Bill “Cousin Carl” Anderson, Mike Tenholder, Gary Rust, Charles and Judy Wiles, Wes Wade, Jim Riley and Brian Young.

Tri-State AMP also recognized the media sponsors of the 2011 “Advertising for a Cause” grant. Ten regional media companies (FOX Radio, Mississippi River Radio, Withers Broadcasting, KBSI Fox 23, WSIL TV-3, Charter Media – Southeast Missouri, Poplar Bluff City Cable, DSW Signs, Bootheel Signs and Red Letter Communications) donated $10,000 each in production and placement services to fund the grant, which featured a multi-media public service campaign for the Southeast Missouri Food Bank covering a five-state service area. As a result of the campaign, the SEMO Food Bank saw an 85 percent increase in donation, more than tripled the number of volunteers, and distributed food to more than twice as many families as before.

Tri-State AMP’s ADDY Awards Competition recognizes exceptional advertising created in the Cape Girardeau, Mo.; Paducah, Ky.; and Harrisburg, Ill., markets. The ADDY Awards honor advertising excellence in all media including print, broadcast, out-of-home and public service advertising.

A distinguished panel of advertising creative executives will gather in Cape Girardeau the weekend of January 21 to select the winners from an anticipated 120 entries. To be eligible for consideration of an ADDY, all work must have been published or aired between January 1 and December 31, 2011.

Tri-State AMP will honor the ADDY Awards winners during a gala on February 24 at The Plaza by Ray’s in Cape Girardeau. Winners of the ADDY Awards are eligible to compete in the second level of the three-tiered ADDY Awards Competition, the District 9 ADDY Awards conducted in March. The District 9 winners are then eligible for the ultimate competition, the national ADDY, presented in June every year by the American Advertising Federation. As a three-tiered national competition with 60,000 entrants overall, the national ADDY Awards are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, recognizing creative excellence and the very best advertising worldwide.

The local ADDY Awards Competition is sponsored by the Tri-State AMP, a member association comprised of advertising and media professionals. Get more information or submit entries here.

Tri-State Advertising & Marketing Professionals is a non-profit organization made up of communications professionals in the Cape Girardeau, Mo.; Paducah, Ky.; and Harrisburg, Ill., areas. The organization seeks to provide and promote a better understanding of the functions and value of advertising; apply the skills, creativity and energy of the advertising industry in solving social problems; advance the standards of advertising through voluntary self-regulation; and promote good fellowship and free exchange of ideas. Tri-State AMP is affiliated with the American Advertising Federation and the Ninth District, AAF.
