CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Tri-State Advertising & Marketing Professionals (AMP) awarded Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and the SEMO Area Agency on Aging (AAA) the $160,000 Advertising for a Cause grant established to provide advertising assistance, production and media placement for regional public service organizations.

CASA makes a difference in children’s lives by providing juvenile justice advocacy for children of abuse and neglect at no charge. Last year, 600 children located in 13 counties across southeast Missouri, southern Illinois and western Kentucky were represented, but 1,000 children did not. The organization’s goal through the media grant is to reach as many of those children as possible. CASA volunteers are well-trained and assigned one or two cases to allow them to develop a connection with the child, represent the child’s best interest and monitor the case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home.

The SEMO Area Agency on Aging provides a variety of services to those age 60 years and older at no charge. Services include nutrition programs, information and assistance, advocacy, in-home services, transportation, legal and counseling services, adult day care and more, provided through 33 senior centers. The agency works in 18 counties to help older Missourians lead healthy and independent lives. The agency’s goal with the media grant is to reach at least one in four of the 87,000 seniors in their service area, adding another 4,500 individuals served; to deliver an additional 80,000 meals; and to increase the number of “Medicaid Boot Camps” from 12 to 18.

Sixteen regional media companies, including Charter Media-Southeast Missouri, City Cable in Poplar Bluff, FOX 23 KBSI-TV/My 49, KFVS-TV/The Heartland’s CW, WPSD-TV, and WSIL/KPOB-TV, FOX Radio, KYMO, Pollack Broadcasting Company, Pure Country C106.1, River Radio-Cape Girardeau and Withers Broadcasting, DSW Signs, Bootheel Signs, Red Letter Communications and Andrew Chronister Video Productions, have donated $10,000 each for production or placement services to fund the $160,000 grant divided between the two agencies and coordinated by Tri-State AMP. The media partners will develop and implement a multi-media public service campaign for both non-profits.

Tri-State AMP received applications from 35 regional public service organizations throughout the group’s three-state service area before selecting CASA and SEMO AAA as the 2013 recipients.

The Advertising for a Cause grant débuted in 2009 when four local media organizations donated $40,000 worth of creative production and media placement to be used for a worthwhile public service campaign with potential to deliver tangible results. Tri-State AMP received the American Advertising Federation’s National Club Achievement Award for its role in the resulting public service campaign. Today, the number of media organizations participating in Advertising for a Cause has tripled and the donated amount is four times higher than the original grant.

After his bout with testicular cancer, David Coleman set out to create a new kind of non-profit organization – one that would focus more on empowerment and conversation, and less on committees and fundraising. The result was ManExam, a “movement” that informs men about the monthly testicular cancer self-exam.

In just 18 months, and with no offices, no employees, and virtually no budget, ManExam has managed to drive over 125,000 men from over 120 countries to the self-exam page on its web site. It has been featured on the nation’s most popular podcast, appeared on an ABC sitcom, and has been endorsed by celebrity musicians in America and the UK. And in 2013, ManExamwill be reaching thousands of men at events in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle, and more.

At our April meeting, Coleman will tell how harnessing synchronicity and celebrating honesty have put his organization on the map.

The grant will provide advertising assistance, production and media placement valued at $160,000 for two regional public service organizations.

Sixteen regional marketing and media companies, including broadcast television stations KBSI/WDKA, KFVS/WQWQ, WPSD and WSIL/KPOB; cable systems Charter Media Southeast Missouri and Poplar Bluff City Cable; radio stations C106 FM, Fox Radio Group, KYMO 105.3FM, the Pollack Broadcasting Company and the Withers Radio Group; outdoor display companies Bootheel Signs and DSW Signs; creative services companies Red Letter Communications and Andrew Chronister Productions, have donated services to fund the grant, which will be coordinated by Tri-State AMP. Once the recipients are selected, two multi-media public service campaigns will be developed and implemented, covering a five-state service area.

Eligible organizations must service Tri-State AMP’s membership area. Applications are available online at www.tristateamp.com and must be submitted by April 25. For more information, please call Boyce Holt at 573-429-8820 or email bo@allmediaservices.net.

The Southeast Missouri Food Bank was the winning applicant of the 2011 campaign, with a goal of reaching 30,000 food insecure individuals within its 16 county service area. As a result of the media grant, the Food Bank added 30 schools to its “BackPacks for Friday” program, totaling 42 sites; added 59 “Truck to the Table” mobile deliveries, totaling 101 locations; and increased monetary donations by 85 percent, resulting in an additional one million meals delivered.

The Advertising for a Cause grant débuted in 2009 when four local media organizations donated $40,000 worth of creative production and media placement to be used for a worthwhile public service campaign with potential to deliver tangible results. Tri-State AMP selected Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri as the first recipient, with a goal of matching at least 10 percent of their 100 participants with a Big Brother or Big Sister. The campaign resulted in 58 total matches, as well as 16 new Big Brother volunteers and 52 Big Sister inquiries – far exceeding the stated goal. Tri-State AMP received the American Advertising Federation’s National Club Achievement Award for its role in this important public service campaign.

The District 9 winners are then eligible for the ultimate competition, the national ADDY, presented in June every year by the American Advertising Federation (AAF). As a three-tiered national competition with 60,000 entrants overall, the national ADDY Awards are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, recognizing creative excellence and the very best advertising worldwide.

Individual tickets are $30 each and a corporate table of eight is $325. Corporate tickets feature prime reserved seating, recognition of your company or organization, and free cocktail drink vouchers for each attendee. Individual tickets will be $40 each at the door.

Hi! This is Emily Sikes, Tri-State AMP ADDY Committee Chair.

I want to apologize for the issues we’ve had the last few days with the ADDY entry website. The new system is not perfect, but the larger issue is the fact that our ADDY deadline is the same as the much larger clubs in Washington, D.C., and New York City. Apparently, it’s just been too much for the system to handle.

Because of all the issues, we have extended our deadline to Tuesday, January 15, at 4 pm.

I’ve been told that it will be improving soon. Also, you may have better luck if you try accessing the system after 5 pm EST.

Please don’t hesitate to email me if you’re still having problems!

If you are a procrastinator and haven’t started your ADDY entries, don’t delay!

Thanks for your patience.
